Community Conversations with Rep. Jane Garibay

Show Details

Guest Brianna Dunlap; Director of Development and Community Relations, South Park Inn (a homeless shelter and homeless services provider in Hartford, CT) Rep. Jane Garibay and Dunlap meet to discuss a newly funded role at South Park Inn, an ‘Older Adults Case Manager’ To proactively respond to the needs of older individuals experiencing homelessness, Dunlap appealed to the Aging Committee of the Connecticut General Assembly in March of 2024. The appeal was for restricted funding to better serve the aging population of homeless individuals in Hartford and Greater Hartford. Specifically, for a two-year initiative at South Park Inn to provide targeted programmatic support and hire a specialized case manager for guests ages 55 and above. The support was awarded and will be provided through the CGA via the Department of Housing. This support fills a dire service-area gap, improves dignity for older adults experiencing homelessness, and therefore transform many lives as we transition aging adults from homelessness to housing. This initiative dovetail with the ongoing work of the Committee of the Aging.
